Tugela Falls Overnight Hike

The Basics:

If Transport is not being provided, we will aim to meet at Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge at around 09:30 for 10:00, this would mean leaving JHB at roughly 5:30/6am. On the day of the hike, should you wish to stay at Witsieshoek on the night before please let us know and we can make a plan for you.
Once everyone is at Witsieshoek we will catch the shuttle to Sentinel car park to start the hike by roughly 12:00. This should find us arriving at the top around 16:00 dependant on the group.
We will pitch tents and relax for the balance of the day, one can walk around the area and explore more if your legs need more movement, sit near the falls, watch the sunset or just relax, for the brave you could have a dip in the river pools which are crystal clear.
We will supply a simple camp style dinner, and simple breakfast with coffee/tea in the morning. We will have a slow start to the morning, possibly a light stretch or meditation with the intention of descending around 11am getting us back to the cars by no later than 15:00.

The hike itself:

We will leave the car park and follow a well used and perfectly maintained hiking path for about 6km until we reach the chain ladders, we will ascend the chain ladders and hike across the top of the escarpment to the falls. This is a very exposed hike that although relatively safe can feel very hectic for people that suffer from a fear of heights, should this be the case please inform us so we can put additional safety and confidence systems in place. From here we can choose a great camp site and set up for the evening, the views are spectacular, it’s a very special place.
Morning we recommend waking up for sunrise as it’s like no other, but that’s up to you, we will have a relaxed morning with breakfast before the descent, we will hike a little higher up and then descend via the Gully which is a steep slow descent but a variation from the ladders.
Distance approximately 14km round trip.
Elevation Gain approximately 616 meters.
Maximum Height above sea level 3326 meters.
Routes are not fixed and will be determined by the Hike leader based on safety and the group capability.
(Please note this hike will only go ahead should we have 4 pax minimum.)
